Investigations are chosen according to each couple’s history and may include pelvic ultrasound, blood tests of hormone levels and ovarian reserve, assessment of the fallopian tubes and uterus, and semen analysis for the male partner.
The aim is to identify a cause where one exists — such as ovulatory, tubal, uterine or male-factor problems — or to confirm that no clear cause is found. The results guide the choice of treatment rather than being an end in themselves.
